Power infrastructure refers to the power plants, substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks that generate and deliver electricity. I’m particularly interested in large-scale power infrastructure.
In the US, power infrastructure is tracked nationally by the U.S. Energy Information Administration:
- The U.S. Energy Atlas is an awesome, interactive map of all the power plants and bulk transmission lines around the country.
- Open Infrastructure Map is a better-performing web app that presents much of the same data.
In Canada, power infrastructure is tracked provincially. Alberta has an interactive map that shows power plants, substations, and transmission capabilities in the AESO Transmission Capability Map.
